How to measure your foot
- Do it in the evening — feet swell a little during the day.
- Wear the socks you’ll wear with the shoes.
- Stand on a sheet of paper against a wall, heel touching the wall, weight on the foot.
- Mark the tip of your longest toe (it isn’t always the big toe).
- Measure from the wall edge to the mark in centimetres. Do both feet and use the longer one.
How sizes are worked out here
Indian shoe stores mostly use UK sizes. Brands publish charts that match foot length to size; most adult charts move by one size per centimetre (US men’s ≈ foot cm − 18; US women’s ≈ foot cm − 17; UK men’s = US − 1, UK women’s = US − 2). EU sizes are converted from the same charts. Kids’ sizes use the common US kids’ scale (C for little kids, Y for big kids).
Sizes vary between brands by up to half a size, and narrow or wide feet change the best size. Use the result as your starting point and check the specific brand’s chart before ordering online.
Between two sizes?
Go up for running and sports shoes (feet swell, toes need room), for leather shoes you’ll wear for long days, and for kids who are growing. Go down only for shoes that stretch, such as knit uppers.
